The Training-Workshop on Book Writing and Publishable Instructional Materials with a theme, “Capacitating Prolific Budding Authors and Writers toward Revitalized Education,” was successfully conducted on April 19, 2024, at the Pangasinan State University Golden Lion Hotel, Lingayen, Pangasinan. Said event was organized by the Office of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) under the Division of Local and International Affairs (LIA). Also, all CPD Coordinators from the different campuses worked hand-in-hand to ensure the success of the event.

The PSU President, Dr. Elbert M. Galas, and LIA Vice President, Dr. Ian D. Evangelista were represented by the OIC Director for CPD, Mr. John Joseph D. Zarate, who welcomed the participants and expressed sincere gratitude for showing support for the said endeavor. The event was enjoined by professionals who were eager to learn, unlearn, and relearn from a pool of experts, they started their journey of producing and publishing books and instructional materials.

“This training-workshop is not just about getting CPD credit units; it is about earning valuable knowledge and skills that will capacitate you to be better in your profession. PSU is committed to ongoing lifelong learning. CPD encourages looking forward and identifying opportunities to learn something new, refresh existing knowledge, improve skills, or simply keep up-to-date with the latest developments within a particular profession or industry,” Mr. Zarate said.

The first resource person, Asst. Prof. Mary Joyce Camille A. Paragas, ABEL faculty of PSU Lingayen shared about the Educator’s Toolbox in Writing. Asst. Prof. Paragas magnified the tenets and importance of book writing and creating publishable instructional materials.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mark Anthony S. Angeles, a faculty from the University of Sto. Tomas lectured on the Science and Art of Book Writing and Publishable Instructional Materials. His lecture revolved around the essentials and foundations of producing various instructional materials that will enhance the profile of educators in the academe.

The event was also graced by Prof. Ethel Reyes-Chua, the former Director of PSU-CPD and the CEO of EduHeart Publishing House. She discussed the difference between ISSN and ISBN. Furthermore, Prof. Chua magnified the importance of copyright and shared in a nutshell the importance of the National Book Development Board.

All three resource speakers provided workshops that enhanced the learning of the participants. Overall, the seventy-seven participants did not just learn pertinent skills and knowledge about book writing and publishable instructional materials but above all, were inspired to write their books and produce their instructional materials.
