Pangasinan State University, through a joint undertaking of the Office of the Vice President for Local and International Affairs (OVPLIA) and the School of Advanced Studies (SAS), conducted an International Visiting Lecture activity on March 30, 2026 in a hybrid format, to sustain and strengthen its global presence.
The activity is part of the many international initiatives of ๐๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐ as it reflects PSUโs continuing mission to provide quality education by engaging with global partners and promoting cross-cultural academic collaboration.
Setting the tone for the activity was a welcome remarks from Dr. Christian Thom Tabisola, Dean of the Professional Track Program of SAS who highlighted the Universityโs thrust to provide quality education through access to global expertise and diverse academic perspectives.
Meanwhile, in an inspirational message, Dr. Renato E. Salcedo, Acting Vice President for Local and International Affairs and concurrent Officer-in-Charge of SAS, underscored the importance of strengthening global academic partnerships and fostering cross-cultural dialogue, as he quipped, โIn an increasingly inter-connected world, our strength as an academic institution lies in our ability to connect, collaborate and communicate beyond borders.โ
The activity featured Dr. Poppy Febriana, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Law, and Social Sciences of Universities Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo (UMSIDA) in Indonesia, who delivered a compelling lecture on the topic โCommunicating Development in the Digital Age.โ
Dr. Poppy shared Banyuwangiโs best practices on digital transformation, community participation and local development as well as the obvious paradigm shift in communication.
โDevelopment communication was largely a one-way street- – delivering messages from institutions. Today, the paradigm has shifted fundamentally. Communicating development means active interaction, visibility, legitimacy and participation,โ Dr. Poppy said.
The event also included a panel discussion focusing on Philippine and Indonesian responses to the Middle East crisis, fostering meaningful academic exchange and global perspectives among participants.
Aside from Dr. Poppy, panelists included PSU officials and faculty members: Ms. Leizel Del Castillo (Director for International Relations), Assoc. Prof. Zshyna Mae Ahmed (Chairperson of Public Administration, PSU Lingayen), Dr. Christian Thom Tabisola (Program Dean, Professional Track of SAS) and Prof. Jeff De Asis (Coordinator for International Relations, Bayambang Campus).
