Literature is the safe and traditional vehicle through which people learn about the world and pass on values from one generation to the next.
Books, for that matter, have a unique way of stopping time in a particular moment and saying: Let’s not forget this.
Thus on September 19, another milestone was etched in the annals of PSU history with the unveiling of two written works authored by its former President, Dr. Dexter R. Buted .
The reference materials are a compendium of the diligent efforts of the 6th President of PSU and his ability to transform PSU as an organization into what it is today, done with the help and support of the PSU Power Team, writers and artists.
The First Book, “Sustaining the Path to Transformational Leadership aims is one that modestly introduces concepts of transformative leadership using his own lens as the former PSU President.
“I purposely aim at publishing this book to be able to inspire other young leaders, would-be leaders and managers who are leaders in their own right, to pursue their aspirations, focus on the vision and no matter what happens, never stop and never be swayed by setbacks and persecutions,” Dr. Buted said.
The Second book, which was launched in December 2022 is a coffee table book entitled ‘Piugagep: Transforming the Vision into Reality’.
This captures the magnificence of PSU in photographs that speaks volumes of what it is today. The colorful and vivid hues depict the brilliance of this premier State University.
Piugagep is a Pangasinan language term for wish or dream that is descriptive of the magnificence of the stories contained in the book where the impossible dreams were transformed into reality.
“It features my dream or vision for the University,“Piu-ga-gep para ed Pangasinan State University”. It is a collection of photos which bespeaks of the stories that were unraveled throughout my term of leadership. It could well be considered as our University’s history book which future generations of PSUnians can flip over its pages, see, know and learn what transpired during the golden era of the University,” he added.
Stemming from the hardwork of every PSUninan, the sweet blend of PSU creativity and the vivid hues depict a complete picture of innate craftsmanship exquisitely binded together.
“These two literary works are my gifts to Pangasinan State University. These two books I leave as my remembrance to the PSU academic community. A word after a word is power. The power to be found between the pages of these books are formidable. Let us unleash that power today!” the author added.
Accordingly, the event paved the way for PSUnians to converge at the ASEANA Hall of PSU Golden Lion Hotel, bringing together top management and PSU Officials led by University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas, retirees, stakeholders , well-wishers who include Regional Director Christine Ferrer of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Justice James Kundangan of the Office of the Solicitor-General and supporters who excitedly availed of the book which were personally signed by Dr. Dexter R. Buted.
The Book Signing event is part of the author’s 51st birthday celebration and thanksgiving party which he personally sponsored. A long line of birthday cakes and a music enjoyment with a band capped the celebration.
