Pangasinan State University (PSU) has developed industry-driven ICT Innovation Laboratories and Training Hubs, demonstrating a forward-thinking approach to sustainable education and infrastructure. These laboratories emphasize digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and innovative training methodologies to meet the demands of Industry 4.0 while supporting the goals outlined in the UI GreenMetric guidelines.
FABRICATION LABORATORY
The Fabrication Laboratory serves as an innovative hub for fostering creativity, technological innovation, and hands-on DIY projects. It offers cutting-edge tools and resources that support the development of inventive solutions for public, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The laboratory promotes sustainability by encouraging the efficient use of materials and fostering a culture of prototyping and iteration, which minimizes waste.
By providing a platform where individuals can experiment with modern technology, the lab plays a pivotal role in addressing gaps in creativity and industrial growth, ensuring that it contributes to solving real-world environmental and societal challenges.
The laboratory is continuously monitored for its impact on the community and industry, evaluating its role in innovation, research productivity, and the development of sustainable solutions aligned with Industry 4.0 objectives.
Solid Freedom Fabrication Research Laboratory (SoFFReL)
The lab envisioned to strengthen the metal industry in Pangasinan and revolutionize its industry structure by providing a shorter value chain, cost and time reductions through elimination of assembly steps, greater customization and design freedom and minimal waste.
The Solid Freedom Fabrication Research Laboratory (SoFFReL) is dedicated to advancing research in digital fabrication and rapid prototyping, focusing on sustainable innovation.
Equipped with state-of-the-art tools and technologies, SoFFReL empowers researchers, students, and innovators to explore new fabrication methods that reduce environmental impact and promote resource efficiency.
The lab specializes in custom solutions for various industries, supporting sustainability goals by focusing on environmentally friendly materials and fabrication techniques.
SoFFReL also engages in collaborative research initiatives aimed at creating sustainable technologies, and its activities are closely monitored to assess contributions to reducing energy consumption and improving resource management in fabrication processes.
Through continuous evaluation, the laboratory ensures alignment with both PSU’s sustainability targets and the global shift towards more responsible, environmentally conscious innovation practices.
Information Technology and Network Communication Training Laboratory(ITNCTL)
The Information Technology and Network Communication Training Laboratory (ITNCTL) Facility of the College of Computing Sciences is a cutting-edge facility that enhances the delivery of undergraduate programs in Information Technology, Computer Science, and Engineering.
It integrates sustainable infrastructure by utilizing energy-efficient networking tools and promoting digitalization that reduces physical resource usage. The lab’s design emphasizes minimal energy consumption through intelligent power management systems and environmentally friendly equipment.
By providing practical, hands-on learning experiences, ITNCL ensures that students develop advanced networking skills while also instilling awareness of sustainable ICT practices.
The training focuses on green networking technologies, enabling students to design and implement networks that are energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable.
The laboratory’s operations are regularly reviewed to ensure continuous improvement in alignment with PSU’s sustainability strategy and the UI GreenMetric’s criteria.
Industrial Technology Training Laboratory
The Industrial Technology Training Laboratory (ITTL) plays a crucial role in PSU’s efforts to enhance the competitiveness and productivity of graduates while fostering a sustainable learning environment. Equipped with the latest industry training equipment, such as robotics and air-conditioning systems, the lab prepares students for Industry 4.0 by focusing on both technological innovation and sustainability.
This initiative supports sustainable practices by training students on the use of energy-efficient industrial systems, promoting the reduction of environmental impact in manufacturing and industry settings. The laboratory encourages research on sustainable technologies and materials, contributing to the global movement towards green industrial solutions. Continuous monitoring and evaluation are conducted to assess the lab’s sustainability impact and ensure its alignment with PSU’s broader environmental objectives.
Monitoring and Evaluation Framework
PSU ensures that all of its ICT-driven laboratories, including the Fabrication Laboratory, SoFFReL, and the Modern Network & Communication Training Laboratory, are subject to a rigorous monitoring and evaluation framework.
This framework assesses the laboratories’ impact on:
-
- Energy Consumption: Tracking and minimizing the energy usage of equipment and optimizing facility energy management systems.
- Material Efficiency: Reducing waste through sustainable fabrication practices and promoting the use of environmentally friendly materials.
- Research and Innovation Output: Evaluating contributions to sustainability-focused research and the development of green technologies.
- Industry Alignment: Ensuring that laboratories remain aligned with the latest industry standards, particularly in areas related to sustainability and Industry 4.0.
Through this continuous process of planning, implementation, and evaluation, PSU maintains a strong commitment to sustainable infrastructure and educational excellence, in line with the UI GreenMetric standards.
