The Pangasinan State University and the Department of Education Regional Office-1 (DepED RO-1) entered into a Memorandum of Agreement signing to carry out the project entitled ‘DEPED REGION I RESEARCH PORTAL’ today, September 28.

In a shared view of the importance of information technology in increasing productivity and promoting greater collaboration and communication, the two institutions convened at the Kalachuchi Hall of PSU Golden Lion Hotel.
The ‘DEPED REGION I RESEARCH PORTAL’ is an online platform that, according to Dr. Tolentino G. Aqunino, Regional Director for DepEd RO-1, serves as a utilization approach in research among public school teachers that is of big help inside the classroom.

“We thank PSU for this partnership. Ang DepEd teachers sa Region ay magagaling at karamihan sa kanila ay graduate ng PSU and others are engaged in Research. It is one thing or one way exposing our teachers in the Region to maximize researches conducted in the region,” Dr. Tolentino added.

PSU, known for its extensive researches, innovative information technology projects and sustainable extension services, will spearhead the development of the said Research Portal such as application features and identification and analysis of data and information to be uploaded.

“We are excited for this new partnership. We all know that DepEd and PSU have been partners for numerous projects for many years now. Our door is always open because as we all know, research, collaboration and information technology are some of our pillars towards excellence in the academe,” PSU President Dr. Elbert M. Galas said.

As stated in the agreement, DepEd will provide necessary assistance such as manpower, technical, financial support and necessary data and information needed to ensure system development, testing and deployment.

“Hindi lang nito [MOA] mapapalawig ang ating partnership kung hindi mapapalakas pa [as family]. We know and we are confident to do all these things because of the help of PSU,” Dr. Tolentino shared.

Other DepEd RO-I Officials who witnessed the signing event commended PSU for its holistic support to the project and openness to future research and extension collaboration. They include Dr. Cecilia P. Rosido, Chief Education Supervisor for Policy, Planning and Research Division, Mdm. Sarah Q. Casuga, Chief Education Supervisor for Education Support Services Division and Dr. Leah L. Olua, Education Program Supervisor for Policy, Planning and Research Division.

Meanwhile, counterpart from PSU Officials were Dr. Roy C. Ferrer, Campus Executive Director for Urdaneta City; Dr. Juan Primitivo P. Petrola, Executive Secretary for the Office of the University President; Director Venus May Sarmiento of PRPIO; Dr. Frederick F. Patacsil, Dean for College of Computing Science – PSU Urdaneta Campus; Mr. Leo Gabriel V. Villanueva, Head for Data management and the Web Administrator; Faculty members from Urdaneta Campus; Former PSU President and the concurrent VP for Administration and Linkages Dr. Dexter R. Buted; and Vice President for Research, Extension, Innovation and Gender and Development Office (REIGn) Dr. Razeale G. Resultay.

“You are not just partner to us but also a family. We will work together not only for regional projects and programs but also in nation-wide endeavors,” Dr. Resultay shared in her closing message.

A training seminar will also be conducted on November 9-10 for the end-users’ knowledge on the navigation of the system with PSU TWG as invited speakers.

The MOA signing event ended with DepEd officials getting a tour of the facilities of the PSU Golden Lion Hotel.
