In a demonstration of strong partnership, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Pangasinan State University (PSU) further solidified their ties through a recent meeting held on May 25.

The meeting aimed to provide updates and delve into the current status of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) projects and programs of DOST in the Province and in the University.

It was personally participated in by the University President of PSU Dr. Elbert M. Galas and the Vice-President for Research, Extension, Innovation and Gender and Development (REIGn) Dr. Razeale G. Resultay.

PSU team warmly welcomed the DOST officials led by the OIC Regional Director of DOST Dr. Teresita A. Tabaog at the PSU Golden Lion Hotel.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to materialize our extension and innovation projects with a strong support from the DOST. We are grateful for the time and trust you have given us to make a meaningful impact and contribute in advancing technology and uplifting the community,” Pres. Galas said.

Discussions during the meeting covered a range of vital topics, including updates on the Bangus [Milkfish] hatchery in the University, Research and Development (RND) strategic plans for the next ten years, status of matured technologies, shell testing for the Mussel Industry project and concerns about the Solid Freeform Fabrication Research Laboratory (SoFFREeL).

The update on establishment of the Salt Center as the major project of the two institutions was also laid out.

“We have to prioritize and fast track this project so that we will know the things we need to incorporate and other interventions needed to be integrated to successfully materialize this. We should coordinate and present our plans on this. The DOST and the Provincial Government have a firm support on this. Tulungan nalang tayo pagdating sa ASIN,” OIC-Dir. Tabaog said.

Also, another agency project was addressed with the goal of exploring potential collaborations such as the Innovation, Science and Technology Accelerating Regional Technology-Based (iSTART) Development Program which aims to support the development of local government units (LGUs) by accelerating regional growth through science, technology, and innovation.

“I want to speak to leaders because they are the ones who know the statistics, development and problems in their jurisdiction. Baka pwede tumulong ang PSU para sa mabilis at maayos na implementation ng iSTART project,” the Regional Director added.

Meanwhile, Dr. Galas together with Dr. Resultay assured the full support, active participation and prompt compliance of the University on the endeavors of the DOST, project collaboration and extension services it may offer to contribute in the technological advancement of communities.

Other attendees of the meeting were Engr. Arnold C. Santos the Provincial Science and Technology Director and other DOST personnel.
