Towards inclusivity, the 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐆𝐀𝐃) 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 in the university held its 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩, October 29-30, 2024.

𝐏𝐒𝐔 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐌. 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐬, said that capacity-building program represents an essential step in equipping PSU personnel with the tools, knowledge and strategies to recognize and address issues of gender inequality within our university community.

“𝐺𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑠𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑦 𝑎 𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑓𝑎𝑖𝑟𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠; 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑠𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑙𝑦 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑎𝑐𝑡 𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑚𝑖𝑐 𝑔𝑟𝑜𝑤𝑡ℎ, ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑡ℎ 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑠𝑜𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑙 𝑤𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑏𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔, 𝑤ℎ𝑖𝑐ℎ 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑠 𝑖𝑡 𝑎 𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝑓𝑎𝑐𝑒𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑎𝑛𝑦 𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑢𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑃𝑆𝑈 𝑎𝑖𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡𝑜 𝑑𝑟𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒,” the PSU President shared.

Dr. Galas also encouraged students, faculty and staff, and university officials to renew commitment of fostering a culture of respect, equity and inclusivity, and to ensuring that gender equality is central to PSU’s mission.

𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧’𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐀𝐃 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐬
Joining the two-day event, was the mother unit of GAD Office in the university, 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡, 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐑𝐄𝐈) led by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐳𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐆. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐲.

VP Resultay emphasized that Gender and development in a university context involves examining how gender dynamics affect educational opportunities, experiences and outcomes.

“𝐼𝑡 𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑎𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑠 𝑠𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝑘𝑒𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑠 𝑠𝑢𝑐ℎ 𝐴𝑐𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝐸𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛, 𝐶𝑢𝑟𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑢𝑚 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑐ℎ, 𝐶𝑎𝑚𝑝𝑢𝑠 𝐶𝑙𝑖𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑒, 𝑆𝑢𝑝𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡 𝑆𝑒𝑟𝑣𝑖𝑐𝑒𝑠, 𝐶𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑟 𝐷𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑝𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑃𝑜𝑙𝑖𝑐𝑦 𝐴𝑑𝑣𝑜𝑐𝑎𝑐𝑦,” VP Resultay added.

According to the Vice President, by focusing on these areas, universities can contribute to a more equitable society and empower all students to succeed.

Meanwhile, 𝐆𝐀𝐃 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐫. 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐲 𝐑. 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐝, reiterated that the path to gender equity demands not only commitment but also knowledge, tools and a strategic approach.

Signifying its strong commitment to quality mechanisms, the 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 headed by 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐓. 𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐨, highlighted Sustainable Development Goal No. 5.
Prof. Celeste said that SDG 5 or Gender Equality is a way of looking at how social norms and structures impact the lives and opportunities available to different groups of men and women.

The Vice President emphasized the importance of GAD researchers to collaborate with the communities as these provide avenues to identify their needs and the real issues they face, making research context specific and reflective of the plight of both genders.
