Intensifying partnership in research and extension services, Pangasinan State University took part in the general assembly and inauguration of new officers of Moringaling Philippines Foundation, Inc. (MPFI) held at the Valle Verde Country Club in Pasig, Metro Manila, today, August 15.
PSU President Dr. Elbert M. Galas emphasized the commitment of the University to promote awareness among the consumers, regarding the benefits of moringa, good export value and the increasing demand from pharmaceutical companies marketing Moringa leaf powder as food supplement.
“PSU is grateful to be one with MPFI in materializing projects and maximizing the benefit involving Moringa. Expect that PSU remains united helping partner agencies in their endeavors to benefit the public, to serve as the backbone of body of knowledge and enhance quality education through research”, Dr. Galas said.
MPFI, as partner agency of PSU since August 2020, secured the promotion and production of Organic Moringa through the proposal of the establishment of Moringa genebank/germplasm collection center at Sta. Maria Campus. This aims to support massive seedling production and distribution among farmers’ associations in Pangasinan who are engaged in organic farming and registered Department of Agriculture (DA) beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, the recent event of MPFI also unveiled the launching of the book “Byahe ng Nanay ni Drew” authored by Bernadette Estrella-Arellano about moringa, the health benefits it offers and its economic livelihood for farmers.
The Chairman of the Philippine Chamber of Agriculture and Food, Inc. Danilo Fausto served as the guest speaker of the event where his talks centered on the current state of Agriculture in the Philippines.
The Deputy Speaker and former Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo also delivered an inspirational message.
Representing PSU during the said event were the Campus Executive Director of Sta. Maria Dr. Honorio L. Casculan, Director for Extension Services Dr. Armando Junio, Centerhead for Integrated Agriculture Dr. Oliver C. Caasi, Mr. Ace P. Liwanag for Faculty Regent and faculty researchers.
