With stories of courage, inclusion and shared responsibility at the center of the celebration, Pangasinan State University (PSU) honored its Gender and Development (GAD) 2025 advocates who continue to build safer and more inclusive spaces across the university.
The PSU-GAD Excellence Awards, now on its second year, honored PSU personnel and university offices that uphold the values of a safer, more inclusive and empowered academic institution.
PSU President Dr. Elbert M. Galas said the university’s commitment to the concrete implementation of GAD mechanisms aims to empower PSUnians.
“We condemn gender discrimination. We value a sense of belongingness. PSU, as an academic institution, is a bearer of innovative practices that sustain diverse yet unified and safe spaces,” President Galas said.
For PSU-GAD Director Dr. Romary R. Lincod, the event was not only a recognition of excellence but a collective affirmation of values. She emphasized that the gathering served as a declaration of the university’s stand for justice, equity and equality.
Clad in orange and rusty hues, participants showed solidarity with the campaign to end Violence Against Women and Children, anchored in Republic Act No. 11313, or the Safe Spaces Act, also known as the “Bawal Bastos Law.”
Assoc. Prof. Almira A. Haji of Mindanao State University and Chief Administrative Officer of LGU Lingayen Ms. Judy DL Vargas were among the plenary speakers.
Dr. Galas was named GAD Champion of the Year. Vice President Dr. Jeanilyn L. Villanueva, along with Directors Dr. Juan Primitivo P. Petrola and Architect Leo Gabriel, were also among the 2025 GAD Excellence Awardees.
Dr. Kristi Nuraini, Director for International Relations of Muhammadiyah University of Jember, expressed her gratitude to PSU as one of the Outstanding GAD Partner Awardees.
