Armed with talents and the determination to bring honor to their Alma Mater, Pangasinan State University students who represented Region 1 in the National Culture and Arts Competition organized by the Philippine Association of State Colleges and Universities (PASUC) brought home national championship trophies and much, much more.
Bannering the theme “BIDLISIW: Paghilom, Pagbangon, at Pagsulong”, the three—day national competition brought together more than 2,500 delegates of 115 SUCs coming from 17 regions in the country from April 23-25, 2024, hosted by the Philippine Normal University in the City of Manila.
PASUC President and ASEAN Engineer Tirso A. Ronquillo said the PASUC NCAF 2024 consists of different activities that showcase the diversity of culture that will not just spark the creativity and talents of the delegates, but will surely build a strong camaraderie and great opportunity for each of them.
Dr. Ramil Dacal, PSU Director for Culture and the Arts , along with coaches from the campuses of Alaminos, Bayambang, Lingayen and Urdaneta led the delegates in the travel and preparation for the event.
“Ang tagumpay ng PSU ay tagumpay ng SUC Rehiyon Uno at ang tagumpay ng isang PSU Kampus ay tagumpay ng buong pamantasan. Kailanman ay hindi naging madali ang pakikipagtagisan sa alinmang larangan. Subalit sa pagsabak natin sa national event na ito ay muling napatunayan ang tapang ng Gintong Leon,” Dr. Dacal said.
The PSU Golden Lions emerged national champion in the visual arts competition for the Pencil Drawing (Urdaneta Campus) and Painting (Lingayen Campus) categories.
The Matalunggaring Dance Troupe of Bayambang Campus took home the 4th place in the Folk Dance category with their rendition of Regatores , a Visayan folk dance and claimed another 4th spot in the Indigenous Dance category with their sophisticated version of Man Manok, a Cordilleran dance.
PSU officials, campus executives directors and teachers showed their all-out support to the delegates and cheered them on throughout the competition.
University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas also expressed his excitement and gratitude to all those who painstakingly molded the student-delegates into competitive individuals.
“PSU will continue to hone the talents of our students. It will also continue to be an ally and advocate of culture and arts goals. Thank you for all your hard work, PSUnians!” President Galas said.
