The Pangasinan State University through the Research, Extension and Innovation (REI) attended the 2nd Workshop on the Crafting of the Philippine Salt Industry Development Roadmap (PSIDR), June 4 to 7, 2024.
The said workshop aimed to identify the goals, objectives, and target setting of the proposed strategic actions.

𝑭𝒍𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒔, together with local Asin producers, government officials, representatives from academes, partner institutions and other stakeholders were gathered on the said workshop
held in Quezon City.
Dr. Resultay highlighted PSU’s plan to incorporate salt production into the BS Fisheries and BS Environmental Science curricula. Additionally, she announced that PSU intends to offer scholarships for students engaged in salt research and development.

Meanwhile, Engr. Flores mentioned that the PSU-DOST ASIN Center, in collaboration with its partner SUCs/HEIs, government agencies, and NGOs, can offer support in several key areas; these include the standardization of salterns and site mapping, providing access to laboratories and lab analyses for salt, and establishing standard guidelines for the quality of salt for both food and non-food uses.
The four-day gathering gave participants a synchronized understanding of each stakeholder’s role, as participants were grouped into four components (input provision, production, post-harvest processing, and trade and marketing).
The recent convention is a follow-up activity on the initial workshop held on March 13-14, 2024 which focused on evaluating the current status and identifying critical gaps in the salt industry.
𝐏𝐒𝐔 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐌. 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐬, is spearheading an effort to involve academic innovators in promoting the development and sustainability of emerging areas for community betterment.
