In celebration of Women’s Month, the PSU-Asingan Campus, under the leadership of Dr. Rosario DL. Valencerina, Campus Executive Director, and GAD Coordinator, Professor Viola Ferrer, held an exciting array of GAD-related activities for its students today, March 17.
The simultaneous events consisted of a singing contest, dance contest, essay writing contest, photography contest, and on-the spot pos-gan contest, all aimed to encourage gender equality, promote inclusivity and diversity, and raise awareness of gender and development issues.
The singing contest for vocal solo and duet provided a platform for students to showcase their vocal prowess and express the importance of gender equality through powerful songs. The panel of judges, including Mr. Jay-Ar Barana, Dr. Mary Jane Quibilan, Ms. Wennalyn D. Honrado, and Mr. Merwin Nonan, evaluated the contestants based on the technicality of their voice, stage presence, and their ability to convey the message of the song.
The dance contest was an impressive demonstration of the students’ creativity and artistry, as they showcased their moves to music that conveyed the significance of gender equality. The judges, comprising Ms. Janna Rodriguez, Ms. Jennielyn M. Tamayo, Ms. Kimberly Estrada, Ms. Wennaly D. Honrado, and Dr. Tyrone Lopez, assessed the performances based on choreography, synchronicity, and overall impact.
Dr. Philip Nonales, the Student Services Coordinator, supervised the essay writing contest, providing students with an opportunity to articulate their thoughts and viewpoints on gender and development issues. Students composed essays on diverse subjects, including gender stereotypes, women’s empowerment, and gender-based violence. The essays were evaluated by a panel of judges, which included Dr. Philip G. Nonales, Dr. Mary Jane Quibilan, Dr. Elsa Q. Terre, Prof. Adoracion Gante, and Mr. Benjie Cansino. The judges assessed the essays based on criteria such as quality of writing, originality of ideas, and relevance to the theme.
The Mobile Photography Contest presented students with the challenge of capturing striking images that highlight gender and development issues. The judging panel, composed of Mr. Christopher Espero, Mr. Laurence Agsalud, Ms. Patricia Manoloto, Ms. Ermalique S. Corpuz, and Mr. Michael Jervin S. Leano, evaluated the photographs based on creativity, originality, and relevance to the theme.
Meanwhile, the pos-gan contest entries were judged on their effectiveness in conveying messages related to gender and development issues.The judges, Engr. Eric A. Cunanan, Engr. John Melchor E. Alejo, Engr. Napoleon V. Esperon, and Ms. Rizziel G. Rosario, evaluated the creativity, originality, and relevance to sustainability of the On-the-Spot Pos-Gan Contest entries.
Dr. Rosario expressed her gratitude for the active participation of the students in the GAD-related activities. She also emphasized the importance of promoting gender equality and developing a culture of respect and inclusivity on campus.
The GAD Coordinator, Professor Viola Ferrer, also expressed her appreciation for the students’ commitment and creativity. She highlighted the importance of raising awareness about gender and development issues and promoting a culture of equality and respect on campus.
The deserving winners will receive their awards and be recognized for their outstanding achievements in the various competitions during the culminating program for the GAD contests tt the PSU-AC activity center on March 21, 2023.
The GAD-related activities were a resounding success, with students showcasing their talent, creativity, and dedication to promoting gender equality and development. The events were a testament to the commitment of PSU-Asingan Campus to promote a culture of diversity, inclusion, and equality.
