First-generation college students represent a significant segment of PSU’s student population. Within the cohort of 5546 students, nearly 40% are within this category. These students are pioneers in their families, often being the first to pursue higher education. Their journey through the academia can be characterized by determination, resourcefulness and strong desire to create a better future as these students are often faced with distinct socio-economic, cultural and informational hurdles but despite these obstacles, the first-generation students often exhibit remarkable resilience and determination to improve their life circumstances. In doing so, they embody the Filipino aspiration and serve as a source of inspiration for their families and the future generations.

PSU strongly promotes inclusivity, hence, various support are extended to different segments of students. First-generation students are given tailored-support programs to ensure that these students have an equal opportunity to academic success. By recognizing these first-generation students, others will also be motivated and encouraged to pursue higher education and break the limited access to college education.
