Special treatment for ‘Gawad Parangal para sa Natatanging Mag-aaral’ Awardees did not end during the recognition program in August. Rather, it was just the start of immense opportunities and endless possibilities.
For the nine awardees from Alaminos, Asingan, Bayambang, Binmaley, Infanta. Lingayen. San Carlos, Sta. Maria and Urdaneta Campuses, the nerve-wracking experience they have undergone during the selection process was well worth every drop of tear and sweat.
Bringing home the Golden Lion trophy, a plaque, cash prize and the prestigious recognition of being in the roster of ‘NATATANGI’ students may already seem daunting, but thanks to PSU’s generous guest of honor and speaker that day, the awardees received yet another unexpected ‘gift’.
Mr. Guanson Lo of the Guanzon Group of Companies, who addressed the Gawad Parangal audience on August 18, was moved by the life stories of the awardees that include their struggles in pursuing education.
Thus, barely a month after the encounter, Mr. Lo opened the doors of his business entities to welcome the PSUnians.
The Guanzon Group hosted lunch at Los Pedritos Restaurant in Dagupan City for the awardees and their families. Anent to this, Mr. Lo gave out additional vouchers for their dinner and cash gifts for their vehicle fare in coming to the city.
“My mother and father have always taught us to remember where we came from. We acknowledge that everything we own right now is from the community that patronize our services. It is just fitting to give back to the communities. At sa tingin ko naman, ay karapat dapat naman na magkaroon ng ganitong kasiyahan ang mga estudyante pagtakatapos ng mahabang panahon nilang pag-aaral,” Mr. Lo explained.
To maximize their visit, the benevolent guest speaker offered a free one night stay at the opulent Monarch Hotel in Calasiao town, complete with swimming amenities and breakfast the following morning.
A Guanzon shuttle took the awardees with their parents and siblings to Monarch who are all ecstatic and excited to spend a day in the hotel that they used to only see and pass through.
The VIP accommodation and the luxurious but warm welcome feel of the hotel evoked a feeling of home away from home for Trisha, Mark Louie, Richelle, Abdulbasit, Telbian Patima, Gilbert , Wendy, Harvey and Wednesday.
Pinakanatatanging Mag-aaral Trisha Castaneda of Lingayen Campus expressed her gratitude to the Guanzon group on behalf of his fellow awardees.
The event was organized by PSU’s Director for Student and Alumni Affairs Prof. Celeste Mercado and San Carlos City Campus Executive Director Dr. Liza Quimson (who was instrumental in the guesting stint of Mr. Lo) Also present were Director Venus May Sarmiento of PSU’s Public Relations. Publication and Information Office with Guanzon group’s Ms. Carol Espanol and Mr. Jesse Oliver Chung to provide assistance.
University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas expressed his profuse gratitude to the Guanzon Group not only for the special treat but for always supporting all the endeavors of PSU for students.
