The Global Citizenship Education (GCED) Office under the Office of the Vice President for Local and International Affairs Office (OVPLIA) recently held a webinar for the Universityโ€™s Pre-Service Teachers entitled ๐™๐™ช๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™๐™ค๐™™๐™–๐™ฎ ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐˜ฝ๐™š๐™ฎ๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™™: ๐™‹๐™ง๐™š๐™ฅ๐™–๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐˜ฟ๐™š๐™จ๐™ž๐™œ๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™‹๐™ง๐™š-๐™Ž๐™š๐™ง๐™ซ๐™ž๐™˜๐™š ๐™๐™š๐™–๐™˜๐™๐™š๐™ง๐™จ ๐™ฉ๐™๐™ง๐™ค๐™ช๐™œ๐™ ๐™‚๐™ก๐™ค๐™—๐™–๐™ก ๐˜พ๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ฏ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™๐™ž๐™ฅ ๐™€๐™™๐™ช๐™˜๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ last August 8 via Zoom and Facebook Live.

Aimed at providing pre-service teachers insights on GCEDโ€™s fundamentals, salient features, and importance of embedding it in the curriculum and in the real world, the said activity served as an avenue for future teachers to be prepared on integrating GCED in their pedagogy.

Dr. Ian D. Evangelista, VP for LIA, opened the activity with his welcome remarks, where he stressed the importance of such webinar for the participants. โ€œBy embedding GCED in teacher preparation programs, we are investing in the next generation of educators who will inspire and empower their students to become active and engaged citizens,โ€ he noted.

Meanwhile in their respective inspirational messages, Dr. Erna M. Salazar, Director for Internship, and Dr. Manolito C. Manuel, VP for Academics and Student Services, gave the pre-service teachers pieces of advice on to becoming holistic public servants. Dr. Salazar reminded them to maintain the good values that we have as Filipinos, and as PSUnians embodying the universityโ€™s core values ACCESS. Meanwhile, VP Manuel cited key points for the pre-service teachers to consider as they prepare to inspire and educate the next generation: embracing diversity; promoting empathy and understanding; encouraging critical thinking; leading by example; instilling a sense of responsibility; and lastly, staying curious and lifelong learners.

Dr. Myla V. Lalicon, Education Program Supervisor in DepEd Region 1, delivered her keynote speech revolving on ๐˜พ๐™ง๐™š๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™– ๐™‚๐˜พ๐™€๐˜ฟ-๐™˜๐™ช๐™ก๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™ง๐™š๐™™ ๐˜พ๐™ก๐™–๐™จ๐™จ๐™ง๐™ค๐™ค๐™ข ๐™ฉ๐™๐™ง๐™ค๐™ช๐™œ๐™ ๐™‹๐™ค๐™จ๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ซ๐™š ๐˜ฟ๐™ž๐™จ๐™˜๐™ž๐™ฅ๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™š where she stressed the characteristics of a GCED classroom through a positive discipline. First, it must be holistic capable of building about studentsโ€™ behavior. Second; it must be strength based. Third, it must be constructive. Fourth, it must be proactive. Fifth, it must be participatory.

The webinar also featured distinguished speakers from the university to discuss various GCED topics. This includes Dr. Cristeta C. Closing the event with her message, Ms. Leizel M. Del Castillo, Director for International Relations, highlighted the impact of education and teachers in creating a better world. โ€œLet us remember that education is not just about imparting knowledge but also fostering empathy, and a sense of shared responsibility for our global community. And by preparing you, our future teachers through the lens of GCED, we are equipping you to be agents of positive change in the world,โ€ she stated.
Being chosen as the regional hub for GCED of Region 1, Pangasinan State University led by Dr. Elbert M. Galas, and GCED Director Dr. Cristeta Dulos, commits to providing continuous meaningful activities to promote GCED, thereby building a better and brighter community for all today and beyond.
