Elevating its extension services to greater heights, Pangasinan State University joined national agency to assist its instrumentalities in promoting unity, national reconciliation, peace and economic development.

PSU, together with the Department of Science and Technology – Regional Office 1 (DOST – RO1) through the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO – Pangasinan) and its CEST beneficiaries entered into a memorandum of agreement signing recently.

The Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program, DOST’s platform to engage local communities with science, technology and innovation, will provide a package of S&T interventions to the identified less-privileged communities in Region 1 to uplift living conditions, empower them thru capability building trainings, enterprise development opportunities and science learning.

University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas together with the Vice-President for Research, Extension, Innovation and Gender and Development (REIGn) Dr. Razeale G. Resultay, joined in the MOA signing held at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – International Convention Center, Sapilang, Bacnotan, La Union.

“It is a testament of our dedication [PSU community] in uplifting communities. We wholeheartedly support the agency’s program anchored on its aims in building a progressive, gender responsive, empowered and resilient community to improve the quality of living through Science and Technology,” Dr. Galas said.

A total of six community beneficiaries of the CEST program have been identified by the CEST Core group and officially partnered with DOST Region 1 and its collaborating agencies.

The DOST-CEST beneficiaries include Municipality of Bolinao, Pangasinan (Binabalian, Dewey, and Goyoden) and Dagupan City (Sitio Talaib, Calmay, Sitio Tococ, Lucao, and Sitio Patalan, Ponden).

The said MOA Signing was participated in by officials of the DOST-Region 1 led by OIC Director Dr. Teresita A. Tabaog, different academic institutions, National Government Agencies (NGAs), provincial governments, local government units and Civil Society Organizations (CSO) in the Region.
