PSU Kicks Off Project SOAR

To advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Pangasinan State University (PSU) launched 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝗢𝗔𝗥 (𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀), a 17-week webinar series dedicated to exploring one of the SDGs each week.

In his message, University President 𝗗𝗿. 𝗘𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗠. 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘀 emphasized the importance of aligning PSU’s initiatives with global development priorities. “𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙗𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙩 𝙋𝙎𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙨 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙨𝙤 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩 𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙨 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙣𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨,” he said.

The opening session, held on August 20, 2025, focused on SDG 1: No Poverty, spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President for Local and International Affairs (OVPLIA) led by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗜𝗮𝗻 𝗗. 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮 through the International Relations Office (IRO) under 𝗠𝘀. 𝗟𝗶𝗲𝘇𝗲𝗹 𝗠. 𝗗𝗲𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼.

Distinguished speakers shared their institutional responses to poverty alleviation. 𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗲𝗰𝗼 𝗦𝗮𝘆𝗴𝗼, President of Bayambang Polytechnic College, presented the “Rebolusyon Laban sa Kahirapan” program initiated by the Bayambang LGU, while 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘂𝘀 𝗔𝗱𝗶 𝗡𝘂𝗴𝗿𝗼𝗵𝗼, 𝗦. 𝗙𝗶𝗹., 𝗠.𝗠. of Darma Cendika Catholic University in Surabaya discussed practical measures such as scholarship grants and improved sanitation facilities that can be scaled to wider communities.

The said webinar was hosted by PSU San Carlos City Campus, headed by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗟𝗶𝘇𝗮 𝗟. 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗺𝘀𝗼𝗻, Campus Executive Director, with coordination from 𝗗𝗿. 𝗝𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝗻 𝗣. 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻 (IRO Coordinator), 𝗠𝘀. 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗲 𝗘𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗠. 𝗘𝗹𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗮 (CPD and SPJ Coordinator), 𝗠𝗿. 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗖. 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗼 (PRIO Coordinator), and 𝗠𝗿. 𝗥𝗲𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗱 𝗗. 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮 (PGC Focal Person and webinar moderator).

The session marked the first of 17 installments in Project SOAR, setting the tone for a comprehensive discourse on how higher education institutions can contribute to sustainable global change.
