The Pangasinan State University, through the office of the Student and Alumni Affairs in collaboration with the university Gender and Development (GAD) Unit visited two academic institutions in the Cordillera Region for a benchmarking activity that focused on integrating GAD concepts into the Student Handbook.
The PSU Technical Working Group was led by the Director for Student and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Celeste Mercado and Dr. Romary Lincod of GAD unit. They were joined by university directors, unit heads, student and GAD Coordinators and officers from the Federated Student Government who represented interests and concerns from the nine campuses of PSU.
At the University of the Philippines (UP)- Baguio, the PSU group was welcomed by the Chancellor, Dr. Corazon Abansi. They were later joined by Directors of the Office of Student Affairs, Kasarian (gender unit) and various students from the UP Baguio community.
In the afternoon, the PSUnians had the honor to meet Benguet State University (BSU) President Dr. Felipe Salaing Comila who said that challenges are part of life.
“Life is beautiful because of challenges. Keep on hurdling the challenges of life and you will be successful,” Dr. Comilang advised.
An open forum ensued after the presentation of best practices by the representatives from GAD and Student Affairs Office.
The benchmarking activity served as an avenue for the interchange of ideas related to student codes, anti-sexual harassment and issues on gender equality, among others so that men and women of diverse preferences enjoy equal rights, resources and opportunities.
PSU, led by President Dr. Elbert M. Galas, encourages the continuous exchange of best practices that would redound to the improvement and benefit of the academic community.
