Themed as ” Building Cyber Champions: Stronger Nation Through Cyber Awareness and Action, ” this year’s event, held at the Golden Lion Hotel in Lingayen, Pangasinan on August 7, aims to highlight and develop the skills of cyber-proficient students and help prepare them to push through the realm of cyber security, further increasing the number of highly skilled individuals to help keep maintain safe digital space.
The Zer0day Team is composed of four (4) Computer Science students namely: Li Sevidal(III-A), Harold Moyano(III-B), Liv Torres(II-A), and Christian Earl De Guzman(I-B), who took the cyber challenge under the mentorship of Carl Gustaf Patrik Ferrer and Alexandre Espinosa.
In the competition, the participants were hurled different challenges in categories such as Cryptography, Digital Forensics, Web Exploitation, Windows Exploitation and Machine Investigation to identify intentional faults and vulnerabilities in the system called “flags” that corresponds to a specific point based on difficulty.
Out of seven competing teams from Region I, ‘Zer0day’ was hailed as champion upon scoring 1,929 points.
“We will keep on practicing and will resume our intensive hands-on trainings once the School Year 2023-2024 starts. We will maximize our free time as well in practicing to gain a deeper understanding of cyber security,” said Ferrer.
University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas congratulated the team which is set to represent the whole region in the upcoming Hack4Gov Finals to be held in Manila.
