The long-standing partnership and commitment of Pangasinan State University to the conservation of aquatic resources has brought in another prestigious award from the Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR).
PSU was recognized as an ‘πΌπ¬ππ§πππ π€π π©ππ βπππ¬ππ πππ¨ππ¨ππ‘ππ’ππ© π¨π π’ππ πππππ‘ππ ππ© π£π πππ£πππ¨ππππ£ ππ© πππ’ππ£π πΏππππ©β
during the celebration of the 62nd Fish Conservation Week on September 19, 2025 held at the Luxent Hotel in Quezon City.
BFAR National Director Elizer Salilig said this yearβs celebration underscores the critical role of fisheries in ensuring food security and PSU is recognized for its contribution and unwavering commitment in inspiring partners and securing families for a stronger Philippines.
University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas personally received the award from Assistant Director Isidro M. Velayo. Jr. who represented Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel. Jr. in the ceremony and BFAR Administrative Division Chief Mildred Mercene Buazon. Also in attendance was BFAR Region I Director Rosario Segundina Gaerlan.
βPSU continues to strengthen ties with DA-BFAR which is our significant partner on the BS Fisheries program and our anchor for the Sustainable Development Goals 1, 2 and 14.. As we all know the Philippines and our province in Pangasinan is rich in biodiversity, so it is imperative to create awareness for the protection and preservation of our aquatic resources,β President Galas said.
PSUβs partnership programs with DA-BFAR include, among others, the Salt Congress, ASIN Center and other research initiatives
Moreover, PSU and BFAR inked a Memorandum of Understanding for inclusion in the Open University Systems. Executive Director Dr. Phillip Queroda said some employees of BFAR are products of PSU OUS and a significant number is currently taking up their graduate degree programs at PSU.
