The Pangasinan State University (PSU), through the Office of the Vice President for Local and International Affairs, conducted a Free Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Training on Reflective Teaching on July 18, 2025, via Google Meet platform.

With the theme “Reflective Teaching: Strengthening Pedagogical Practice and Professional Growth,” the training brought together professionals from various sectors, including teachers, guidance counselors, social workers and criminologists. The virtual event provided a platform for interdisciplinary learning, practical engagement and meaningful reflection on improving professional practices through critical self-assessment.

The program began with a keynote lecture by Dr. Beverly Fernandez, which laid the foundation for the day’s focused discussions. Participants then joined specialized breakout workshops tailored to the specific needs of their professions:
Dr. Vladimir Marie E. Cabutotan facilitated the session for professional teachers while Dr. Beverly Fernandez led the workshop for guidance counselors;

Additionally, Mr. Joseph Barrera and Ms. Catherine Atutubo co-facilitated the session for social workers while Ms. Jennifer Benitez moderated the training for criminologists.

Each session offered participants with research-informed strategies, reflective tools and context-specific approaches to enhance professional effectiveness and support lifelong learning.

The training was accredited by the respective professional boards, with participants earning the following CPD units: 4 units for professional teachers; 6 units for guidance counselors; 6.5 units for social workers; and 7 units for criminologists.

The successful conduct of the training was made possible through the dedicated efforts of CPD and Special Projects Coordinators from various PSU campuses, who formed the Technical Working Group under the leadership of Dr. Vladimir Marie E. Cabutotan, Director for Continuing Professional Development.

The OVPLIA–CPD Unit extends its heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Elbert M. Galas, University President, for initiating programs like these, to advancing continuing education at PSU.

Also present to give steadfast support were Dr. Ian D. Evangelista, Vice President for Local and International Affairs and Ms. Leizel M. Del Castillo, Director for International Relations.

More than a capacity-building initiative, the training served as a public service activity aligned with PSU’s mission to promote lifelong learning and empower professionals across various fields.
