  5. PSU faculty gear up for strengthened Gen...

The university sustains its mandate to provide quality education with the conduct of seminar-workshop, bridging gaps to general education curricula, May 13-14, 2025.

Pangasinan State University President, Dr. Elbert M. Galas, said that courses included in general education curricula contribute largely to the understanding of relevant social issues, application of concept in the real world, and even to the body of knowledge.

“As teachers, we see the emphasis and value of general courses in helping our students deeply appreciate their field of specialization. These are steppingstones to becoming future-ready industry-driven professionals,” President Galas shared.

The Office of the Vice President for Academics and Student Services (OVPASS) is the lead unit of the said event. Vice President Dr. Manolito C. Manuel, who personally attended the workshop-seminar, encouraged teaching personnel to actively take part in the strengthening of curricula.

The said two-day event dubbed as “Strengthening the General Education Curriculum: A Vital Approach Toward Shaping Future-ready PSUnians,” involved faculty members of general education departments in the nine campuses.
Dr. Felinan P. Espique, Vice President for Academic Affairs (SLU), Dr. Juner Windel Valdez, Education Program Supervisor (DepEd RO1), Dr. Greg T. Pawilen, Professor (UPLB), and Dr. Danilo K. Villena, VP for Academic Affairs (CSJL) and CHED Technical Committee Member, were the resource speakers of the said event.

Significant topics on pedagogical approaches and contextualization, assessment integration and instructional materials formulation were among the topics for discussions.

Dr. Weenalei T. Fajardo, Director for Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Myra C. Catungal, Head for Learning and Instructional Materials Development Center, and Dr. Juan Primitivo P. Petrola, Director for Presidential Management and Liaison Office, attended and took part in the said event.
Truly, PSU’s credibility and integrity specifically in advancing curricula is the core pillar of quality management under the leadership of Dr. Elbert M. Galas.
