As an adage goes ‘plant a tree today; it will help us breathe tomorrow,’ PSU celebrates World Environment Day 2024 through tree planting and environmental clean-up activities, June 5.
The Pangasinan State University’s division, Research, Extension and Innovation headed by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐳𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐆. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐲, extended the effort to Brgy. Laois in Labrador town as the location of the said activities.
OIC-REI Vice President, Dr. Joseph Campit, thanked the local folks led by Brgy. Captain Valentino Arenas in welcoming the team and in giving assistance for the success of the event.
“𝘔𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘢 𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘰 𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘺𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘢𝘩𝘪𝘭 𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘵𝘢 𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘬𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘭𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘯,” Dr. Campit shared.
Themed as ‘REI-freshing the World thru Tree Planting and Environmental Clean-up,’ PSU team together with Barangay Laois locals planted seedlings donated by Tanggol Kalikasan (TK) Organization.
Meanwhile, the Director for Extension Services, Dr. Armando D. Junio, also shared that the university’s mandate in bringing quality education is not confined inside the classroom, “𝘈𝘯𝘨 𝘗𝘚𝘜 𝘢𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘬𝘵𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘥 𝘥𝘪𝘯 𝘯𝘢 𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘣𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘺 𝘬𝘢𝘩𝘶𝘭𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘬𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘣𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘯” in his exact words.
As the tree planting ended, the team also reached the stream in the area cleaning garbage and segregating it properly with the hope to maintain the practice of proper disposal management.
PSU REI centerheads, Dr. Jun S. Camara, Prof. Irene De Vera and Dr. Nova Arquilano, also took part in the said activity.
With PSU led by 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐌. 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐬, a holistic education does not end inside the institution, but transpires in the community promoting social and environmental responsiveness.
