The Pangasinan State University will push for another local accreditation under its Center of Excellence for Teacher Education.
PSU President, Dr. Elbert M. Galas, led the meeting held on January 14, 20225 among vice presidents, campus executive directors, and college deans and program chairs to refine requirements for the COE.
“We should be enthusiastic and positive thinkers in this quality assurance initiative because the indicators herein do not only speak to our application for COE but also guide appropriate actions for the continuous improvement of our teacher education programs, anchored on PSU’s Mission and Vision,” President Galas said.
Dr. Galas personally sat in and helped the PSU team to finetune strategies to satisfy each indicator mandated by the Teacher Education Council (TEC) for the said COE application.
In stipulation, the designation of Teacher Education-COEs aims to strengthen the quality, relevance and impact of teacher education in the Philippines by recognizing institutions that demonstrate excellence in teaching, research and service.
Additionally, through the said system, the TEC shall evaluate TEIs based on their institutional strengths, demonstrated capacities and potential to contribute to teacher education. This approach ensures transparency, consistency and alignment with national and international standards for quality and excellence.
The Office of the Vice President for Quality Assurance led by Dr. Celeste T. Mercado, through its local accreditation office headed by Prof. William V. Cayetano, spearheaded the said meeting held at the Golden Lion Hotel.
The Teacher Education program remains as one of the flagship programs of the university and is known for its center of excellence. Consequently, PSU scrutinizes its evidence and gaps which may be encountered following the application deadline on January 23, this year.
It can be remembered that PSU professors immersed in training for potential TEC assessors last November 18-20,2025. The team included VP Mercado, Dr. Cristeta Dulos (GCED Director), Dr. Juan Primitivo Petrola (Presidential Management and Liaison Office Director), Dr. Liza Quimson (Campus Executive Director and Dr. Jenylyn Oboza (Alaminos City).
