Ten (10) first year engineering students from Pangasinan State University–Urdaneta City Campus (PSU-UCC) were welcomed as new scholars under the San Miguel Global Power (SMGP) Foundation through a Scholarship Contract Agreement (SCA) signing held on August 20 at the campus Student Activity Center (SAC).
The scholarship initiative reflects the vision of University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas, who continues to advocate for strengthening academic partnerships that expand opportunities for PSUnians.

“By giving our students, the platform to learn, we strengthen the value of collaboration, empathy and mutual respect – skills that are indispensable in the 21st century workplace and in nation building. We thank the San Miguel Global Power Foundation and the Sual Power Incorporated for choosing our PSUnians as your scholars,” President Galas said.

The event opened with remarks from Campus Executive Director (CED) Dr. Roy C. Ferrer, emphasizing collaboration between the university and industry partners in sustaining academic opportunities for students.

Prof. Marienuelle T. Aquino, director of Students and Alumni Affairs of PSU Lingayen, noted that scholarships extend benefits beyond students: “Kapag umangat ang isang miyembro ng pamilya, aangat din ang buong pamilya.”

Subsequently, the 10 new scholars from Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering Department who underwent screening in July, were formally introduced in the program. An orientation on responsibilities and the role of parents and guardians followed. The SCA signing was then conducted with SMGP and university officials, together with the scholars and their parents.

Dean of Student Affairs Mr. Arlo Vincent M. Ranque highlighted that raising a child requires collective effort, and with institutions like SMGP serving as partners, the community becomes stronger in nurturing the students, he added.

Dr. Shirley Layona, Guidance Counselor of PSU-UCC, assured that the guidance office remains open for academic counseling and support.
In her closing message, Atty. Cynthia P. Viñas-Pantoñal, executive director of SMGP Foundation, underscored the long-term investment of the program: “We don’t just give you fish for a day; we provide education that you, your family and your community will benefit from for a lifetime.”
Moreover, a video presentation from the scholars conveyed their appreciation to SMGP.
