Life has more to offer after retirement, with various activities provided by national agencies to help address the needs of the community.
True enough, the Pangasinan State University led by its President, Dr. Ellbert M. Galas, along with DOST-National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), Coalition of Services of the Elderly (COSE) Inc., and National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) held an outreach activity for senior citizen empowerment.
Dubbed as ‘Science for Healthy Aging: Promoting Wellness and Sustainable Practices,’ elderly participants hailing from municipalities of Pangasinan province, were united at the Golden Lion Hotel, June 11, 2025.
“Our lolos and lolas have been our mentors, leaders and strong sources of knowledge that continue to influence our communities. Their contribution to sustainability doesn’t end with retirement, it marks the beginning of a more robust responsibility. The more we value them, the more we recognize their lasting impact.” Dr. Galas shared.
The Vice President for Quality Assurance, Dr. Celete T. Mercado, who represented the University President said that the NRCP Research Information Translation and Communication (RITAC) program aims to translate research into something practical, understandable, and accessible to everyone.
“At PSU, we see our role not only as educators and researchers but as partners in creating future for all Filipinos,” VP Mercado added.
Meanwhile, NRCP Vice President Dr. Ramon Christian P. Eusebio stated that participation in the said program affirms DOST-NRCP’s belief that science should reach people where they are, and that knowledge becomes most meaningful when shared with those who live its realities every day.
Also in attendance during the said outreach activity were PSU Extension Services Director, Dr. Lorena B. Echalar, representing VP Dr. Razeale G. Resulaty, PRIO Director, Ms. Venus May H. Sarmiento and faculty members of the university.
COSE Inc. Executive Dir. Emily N. Beridico and NCSC Acting PDO V Immanuel C. Quiban, signified each agencies’ role in promoting and bringing beneficial programs closer to senior citizens and their family to uplift quality of life.
The event also featured breakout sessions in the afternoon.
