In light of the havoc wreaked by Typhoons ‘Crising’, ‘Dante’ and ‘Emong’ in Pangasinan, volunteerism comes in handy.
In response to the call of the Local Government Unit of Alaminos for volunteers to support its disaster response operations, PSUnians were encouraged to represent the university for this meaningful initiative.
Led by the Research, Extension and Innovation (REI) Division through its Communiversidad Volunteer Program, some 86 faculty members and non-teaching force from various campuses of PSU heeded the call for volunteerism, particularly in repacking of food packs, and went straight to the Don Leopoldo Sison Convention Center in Alaminos City on July 28, 2025.
University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas said these volunteers were not necessarily affected by calamities, but with sheer compassion for their province mates, they took the lead to help in their own little way.
“As they say, volunteering is at the very core of being human. These volunteers were also affected but still they have the heart to help and this is a great opportunity to serve our severely affected kababayans and show our active support for the LGU efforts,” President Galas said.
Incidentally, PSU has also launched its own donation drive to help victims of the typhoon in other areas, especially where PSU has campuses. (see separate story)
PSUnians know that community service and civic responsibility will contribute greatly to the speedy recovery of typhoon-affected individuals and families.
