The Department of Education -Teacher Education Council (DepEd-TEC) has extended the designation of Pangasinan State University Bayambang Campus as a Center of Excellence for Teacher Education effective November 1, 2024 to November 30, 2025.
DepEd Secretary and TEC Chairperson Juan Edgardo ‘Sonny’ Angara led the ceremonial awarding on November 27, 2024 at the DepEd Central Office in Pasig City.
University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas, along with Bayambang Campus Executive Director Dr. Gudelia M. Samson, received the award for PSU.
“This is a testament to the premium we put in quality education. Our relentless pursuit of quality service delivery and excellence in Teacher Education is reaffirmed by this award-extension. Thank you to all our stakeholders,” President Galas said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jennie Jocson, Executive Director of TEC Secretariat, explained that the roles of Teacher Education COEs will focus on the following: support TEC in the development of new recognition and performance system for easy identification and designation of TEC COE; and provide technical supervision to the review and reframing of the pre-service teacher education curriculum and other priorities of the Council.
It can be remembered that PSU Bayambang Campus was granted the COE in Teacher Education award in April 1, 2016 and has been granted extension ever since.
By virtue of Republic Act No. 11713 or the Excellence in Teacher Education Act, Section 8, the Teacher Education Council is mandated to identify and designate among existing private and public TEIs Teacher Education COEs for the CHED’s supervision, monitoring and regulation and formulate a strategic plan to proactively develop Teacher Education COEs in every region and province.
