The most prestigious award for Pangasinan State University students, now on its 10th year, will again take place this August 2024.
A total of nine nominees representing each university campus shared the stage on August 2, 2024, for a public forum as part of the selection process for the ‘Gawad Parangal para sa Pinakanatatanging Mag-aaral’ event.
PSU President, Dr. Elbert M. Galas, represented by Vice President Dr. Jenylyn V. Oboza, said that with the enhancement of the usual search process for the past nine years, this year’s celebration is done very special as the university integrates recognition of students’ efforts and commitment in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
“𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑗𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑒𝑦 𝑑𝑜𝑒𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑒𝑛𝑑 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑛 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑢𝑚. 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑 𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑑𝑠 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑢𝑒𝑑 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑖𝑡𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡, 𝑐𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑡𝑦, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝. 𝐿𝑒𝑡 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑓𝑢𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑎𝑣𝑜𝑟𝑠 𝑏𝑒 𝑔𝑢𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑖𝑝𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑢𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦, 𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑔𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑦,” Dr. Galas said through VP Oboza.
The Office of the Vice President for Academics and Student Services (OVPASS) headed by Vice President Dr. Manolito C. Manuel, along with its unit, Office of Students and Alumni Affairs headed by Ms. Marienuelle T. Aquino, spearheaded the said event.
“𝐼𝑠𝑎𝑛𝑔 𝑑𝑒𝑘𝑎𝑑𝑎 𝑛𝑎 𝑝𝑜 𝑎𝑛𝑔 𝐺𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑑 𝑃𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑎𝑙 𝑎𝑡 𝑠𝑎 𝑝𝑎𝑛𝑎ℎ𝑜𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑡𝑜, 𝑡𝑢𝑙𝑜𝑦-𝑡𝑢𝑙𝑜𝑦 𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑝𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑔𝑏𝑢𝑏𝑢𝑛𝑦𝑖 𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑝𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑔𝑚𝑎𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑘𝑖 𝑎𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑔𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔, 𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑜, 𝑠𝑖𝑝𝑎𝑔 𝑎𝑡 𝑡𝑦𝑎𝑔𝑎 𝑛𝑔 𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑃𝑆𝑈𝑛𝑖𝑎𝑛!” Dr. Manuel shared.
The Vice President added that through the public forum, Gawad Parangal nominees will demonstrate their critical thinking skills and share their insights, perspectives and decisions, on topics and advocacy platforms, especially on their contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
This year’s Gawad Parangal awardees of the nine campuses are Mary Ann F. Mendez (PSU Alaminos City), Michelle R. Rabilas (PSU Asingan), Jean Clarence C. Marcelo (PSU Bayambang), Jerico D. Navasca (PSU Binmaley), Carol T. Dumas (PSU Infanta), John Paul Z. De Guzman (PSU Lingayen), Jericho B. Vila (PSU San Carlos City), Jessica Joy C. Capuli (PSU Sta. Maria) and Christian DC. Francisco (PSU Urdaneta City).
In the open forum, the nominees were tasked to answer questions randomly selected and thrown by various personality, national and international, in reference to the 17 SDGs through a prerecorded video. A follow-up question was provided by the panelists who were present in the venue.
The expert panels in the said forum were: Philippine News Agency (PNA) Bureau Chief for Pangasinan Ms. Hilda Austria; Tourism and Creative Programs Officer, Mr. Marty Ian Gideon Flores; PSU Faculty Regent Hon. Ace John Mark P. Liwanag; PSU Director for Presidential Management and Liaison Officer Dr. Juan Primitivo P. Petrola; and PSU Director for Public Relations and Information Office Asst. Prof. Venus May H. Sarmiento.
The most awaited ceremony for Gawad Parangal para sa Pinakatanatatanging Mag-aaral will be held on August 16, 2024.
