Promoting Employee Health and Wellness: A Women’s Month Celebration
In celebration of Women’s Month, PSU’s Gender and Development (GAD) unit organized a webinar titled “Zoomversation: Employee’s Health and Wellness,” led by Dr. Romary R. Lincod and GAD Coordinator Ms. Eva Jamaillah P. Dizon. Dr. Christia Marie P. Flores, an expert in health and wellness, provided an informative session on the importance of annual checkups and early disease detection, particularly among women. Dr. Flores highlighted essential health practices such as breast self-examinations, mammograms, and vaccinations against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) to prevent cervical cancer. This initiative underscores PSU’s commitment to fostering awareness about preventive healthcare and encouraging proactive health management among its employees.
Uplifting 4Ps Beneficiaries through Livelihood and Health Training
PSU’s Open University System (PSU-OUS) collaborated with the GAD office to conduct a two-day livelihood training project for 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) beneficiaries in Lingayen, Pangasinan. Held on June 26 and 27, this training focused on both health management and entrepreneurial skills, empowering female participants with the knowledge to improve their well-being and economic resilience. Resource speakers, including experts from PSU’s Medical-Dental Services and departments of Chemistry, Food Technology, and Livelihood, shared valuable insights on health management and small-scale entrepreneurship. This initiative reflects PSU’s mission to support marginalized communities by promoting health, sustainable livelihoods, and self-sufficiency.
Project 3K: Health Outreach for Salt Farmers in Western Pangasinan
PSU’s Extension and Research Office, in collaboration with the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, conducted Project 3K (Kaligtasan, Kalusugan, at Kaalaman) on October 7, 2023, targeting salt farmers in Brgy. Hermosa, Dasol, Pangasinan. The project included a medical mission and nutritional awareness program, aiming to address health concerns and promote healthy habits among the salt-farming community. By focusing on practical health education and offering medical assistance, PSU demonstrates its commitment to supporting the health needs of local communities and ensuring accessible healthcare in rural areas.
First Aid Training for Students in BIT Garments
PSU recognizes the importance of equipping students with life-saving skills through basic first aid training. Ms. Paz Cheri Ann V. Soriano, PSU-Lingayen’s campus nurse, conducted a training session for BIT Garments students, emphasizing the importance of preparedness in handling medical emergencies. Led by Dr. Caren O. Ventayen, this session covered essential topics such as CPR, wound care, and managing minor injuries. This program enhances student safety and well-being by fostering a proactive approach to health emergencies, empowering students with knowledge they can use in daily life.
Community Empowerment with DOST: Health and Financial Education
In partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), PSU conducted an extension program on December 6-7, 2023, in Barangay Luna Weste, Umingan. This program provided free medical consultations, coupled with lectures on financial management, healthy weight maintenance, kidney health, and the benefits of clean water consumption. Through this initiative, PSU demonstrates its commitment to bridging health and educational gaps in underserved communities, reinforcing its core values of social and environmental responsiveness
Adopt-a-Sitio Program: Health Assessments for Vulnerable Communities
Through its Adopt-a-Sitio Program, PSU offers health assessments and support to marginalized communities in Sitio Mapita. The program, which serves Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and individuals with mental health challenges, conducted health assessments and provided gifts in collaboration with the University’s ROTC unit on December 7, 2023. This initiative highlights PSU’s dedication to inclusive health care and social support, ensuring that all members of the community receive attention and assistance.
