On November 24, the Gender and Development (GAD) Unit of Pangasinan State University-Alaminos City Campus (PSU-ACC) took a significant step towards creating a โViolence Against Women-Free Philippines.โ The unit organized a seminar on Anti Sexual Harassment (RA 7877) and Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) (RA 9262), held at the PBB Atrium. Staff members were present in person, while students joined the event via Microsoft Teams.
The seminar commenced with an Opening VAWC prayer, followed by audio-visual presentations of the National Anthem, ASEAN, PANGASINAN, and PSU HYMM. The PSU Quality Policy was then recited by the Campus Coordinator for Quality Assurance, Mr. Ronald Noma.
Ms. Zarah Jane Anuddin, the GAD coordinator at the campus, warmly welcomed all attendees. She provided an overview of the seminar and expressed her appreciation towards all speakers, experts, and participants. Dr. Rosario D.L. Valencerina, Campus Executive Director, echoed this sentiment, acknowledging Ms. Anuddinโs efforts in organizing the event.
The program was further enriched by a virtual message from Dr. Rezeale Resulty, Vice President for Research, Extension, Innovation, and Gender and Development (REIGn), who spoke passionately about the advocacy on VAWC.
The seminar then shifted focus to its main agenda. Ms. Pat Carmie Gina C. Vinluan of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 1 105th Maneuver Company discussed RA 9262, the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004. This was followed by PCpl Abigael D. Bonifacioโs presentation on RA 7877, the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995.
In a practical turn, the 105th Maneuver Company provided fundamental self-defense training to women. This training aimed to equip women with techniques to protect themselves in situations like theft, sexual assault, and other related incidents.
As a symbol of solidarity with the 18-day campaign aimed at eradicating violence against women, members of the PSU-ACC community displayed orange flaglets prominently.
Later in the day, the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) and Research, Extension, and Innovation (REIGN) Week kicked off at PSU Lingayen Campus. This event marked the beginning of a concerted effort involving all PSU employees and students across nine campuses.
Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) is not just a significant public health concern, but also a severe infringement upon fundamental human rights. This event, therefore, served as a platform to actively promote solidarity among individuals of all genders and spearhead the annual 18-Day Campaign to eradicate violence against women and children.
