Global citizenship advocates convened for this year’s regional hubs summit held at the Golden Lion Hotel of Pangasinan State University.
Dubbed ‘𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑚𝑜𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐶𝑢𝑙𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒𝑠, 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑛𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑀𝑖𝑛𝑑𝑠, 𝑇𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑠𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐹𝑢𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒𝑠: 𝐴𝑑𝑣𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐺𝐶𝐸𝐷 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ 𝑎 𝑊ℎ𝑜𝑙𝑒 𝑆𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑜𝑙 𝐴𝑝𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑎𝑐ℎ,’ GCED regional hubs across the country joined the summit through hybrid mode, which featured distinguished GCED lectures.
𝑷𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒏 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝑫𝒓. 𝑬𝒍𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒕 𝑴. 𝑮𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒔, said that the incorporation of global citizenship concepts to the curriculum makes the learning and development holistic among students.
“As we master skillsets in the global arena, we bring with us the competitiveness needed for community upliftment. This will make us global leaders,” PEMG said.
Dr. Rowena R. Hibanada, Director for GCED Cooperation Centre-Philippines (GCC Philippines), said that educators must see global citizenship education as a type of education that empowers learners to engage and assume active roles both locally and globally.
“Every student becomes not just a learner, but a future leader equipped to create a more just, a more inclusive, and a more sustainable world,” Director Hibanada added.
The said hubs summit included talks of Dir. Margarita Consolacion Ballesteros for DepEd, Ms. Lindsay A. Barrientos EnP, for UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines, Dr. Christine N. Ferrer for CHED Regional Office-I, Mr. Marion Joseph Villar Former Program Officer for Education The Asia Foundation, Dr. Felicia I. Yeban for Philippine Normal University, Dr. Ivan Anthony S. Henares, Secretary-General UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines, Dr. Jandy S. Danzalan, GCED Focal Person, and Prof. Iona Ofelia B. Zanoria, Project Lead for GCC Regional Hubs Summit 2025, and Dr. Bert J. Tuga, PNU President.
Several messages from the leaders of Global Citizenship Education were shared – Ms. Jeongmin Eom, Deputy Head, Institute of Global Citizenship Education, Dr. Hyun Mook Lim, Director, Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding.
Meanwhile, PSU as the GCED Regional Hub of Region 1, led by Prof. Cristeta C. Dulos, said that the implementation of global citizenship education is not an abstract framework but a shared responsibility.
The 𝑶𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑽𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑳𝒐𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑨𝒇𝒇𝒂𝒊𝒓𝒔 𝒍𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 𝑫𝒓. 𝑰𝒂𝒏 𝑫. 𝑬𝒗𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂, and where the Office of GCED is anchored, shared that the event is a space where teachers renew their sense of purpose, where young people find not just their voice but their power, and where partnerships grow not out of obligation, but out of a shared dream for equity, justice, and belonging across generations.
𝑽𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑨𝒅𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝑫𝒓. 𝑹𝒐𝒔𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒐 𝑫𝑳. 𝑽𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒂, also took part in the said three-day event.
The second day of the event featured presentation of best practices among GCED hubs in the country.
