Pangasinan State University (PSU) formally launched GreenPSU on September 10, 2026, marking another significant stride in the University’s continuing pursuit of environmental sustainability, responsible resource management, and climate-conscious institutional practices.
University President 𝗗𝗿. 𝗘𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗠. 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘀 said the initiative underscores PSU’s commitment to cultivating a culture of environmental stewardship across its campuses and offices, encouraging the entire University community to translate sustainability principles into meaningful and measurable actions.
Bannering the theme ‘Together we build a greener and more sustainable PSU’, Dr. Claro Sison, Director of the General Services unit, welcomed the participants with his story about a grandfather who planted a mango tree that depicts the true essence of care for the environment snd the future.
Similarly, GreenPSU’s lead focal person, Dr. Lina Cancino stated the purpose of the event which is to strengthen and sustain the implementation of the Waste Management and Pollution Control Policy across all PSU campuses.
“We are strengthening the culture where cleanliness, proper waste management , resource conservation and care for the environment become part of our everyday practices” Dr. Cancino said.
Anchored on the principles of responsible consumption, resource conservation, environmental protection and collective accountability, Vice President Jeanilyn L. Villanueva of the Administration and Finance Management Division said PSU is not simply launching another program but making a commitment where the university will not only educate minds but will also help protect the environment that sustain those minds, those lives and the generation that comes after.
“Why can a university do? Small things when practiced by thousands of people everyday will bring significant change. We will not just build a green campus but create a greener mindset. Choose responsibility over convenience, conservation over waste, sustainability over short term habits, actions over indifference. Let GreenPSU not just remain a program but a way of life,” VP Villanueva said.
Additionally, a lecture on environmental laws and regulatory compliance was presented by Ms. Grace Satuito, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer of LGU Lingayen where she emphasized the importance of understanding and observing legal requirements designed to protect the environment and promote sustainable development.
Ultimately, the MENRO officer said environmental compliance is not merely a legal obligation but a commitment to environmental stewardship, accountability, and sustainable institutional practices.
More than an environmental campaign, GreenPSU positions sustainability as an integral dimension of university governance and operations. The initiative likewise complements the University’s broader institutional direction toward continuous improvement and globally responsive higher education.
