The successful conduct of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training-workshop of Pangasinan State University left its participants enriched with a wealth of undeniable knowledge, promising a transformative impact on their teaching methods and approaches.

The ‘Training-Workshop on Metacognitive Strategies and Pedagogical Approaches in Teaching’ officially commenced on August 10 through the ZOOM platform hosted by the CPD committee under the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, Innovation and Gender and Development (REIGn) Office led by the VP for REIGn Dr. Razeale G. Resultay.

Drawing from their wellspring of expertise, esteemed University Officials facilitated the training-workshop and generously imparted invaluable knowledge to a diverse teacher-participants hailing from both public and private educational institutions.

The Head for CHED-Initiated Quality Assurance Dr. Ethel Reyes-Chua, represented PSU President Dr. Elbert M. Galas in welcoming the participants and also served as one of the resource speakers. The Campus Executive Director for Lingayen, Dr. Renato Salcedo served as the main resource speaker of the event.

Topics centered on ‘Preparing Students for Life’ are narrowed down to Outcomes-Based Education (OBE), learning environment, teaching according to how students learn and teacher collaboration during a global pandemic became the focus of Dr. Chua’s lecture.

“As we all learn together at home and around the world, let us think of and re-think of how we can prepare our students for life. Gone are the days that teachers command and students follow policy. Let us all work hand in hand to make our virtual classes with our students more interesting, engaging, practical, and that will truly help them prepare for life,” Dr. Chua shared.

On the other hand, Dr. Salcedo equipped CPD participants with a vast concept on metacognition and presented empirical evidences to support its importance to the 21st century education.
“It’s imperative to recognize that embracing metacognition holds the key to unlocking enhanced learning experiences. The assimilation of these concepts is essential for cultivating proficiency among educators, school administrators, and teachers in the ever-evolving landscape of 21st-century education,” Dr. Salcedo said.

The said training-workshop covered a lecture part in the morning and a workshop facilitated by Ms. Vladimir Marie E. Cabutotan in the afternoon session. The presentation of outputs from teacher-participants also followed.

The CPD working committee will promptly issue e-certificates to the attendees within a span of two weeks upon completion of validation process for participants’ details.

The ‘Training-Workshop on Metacognitive Strategies and Pedagogical Approaches in Teaching’ is the 15th CPD program approved by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) since the University’s certification on February 23, 2023.

CPD committee also acknowledged the active involvement of PSU personnel for the success of the event: Dr. Nova E. Arquillano for the closing remarks, Mr. Charles Dustein E. Soriano as the Master of the ceremony and Mr. Albert Ragasa as technical support staff.

PSU, led by University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas continuously provide an avenue for professionals to enhance areas needed for the 21st century education in accordance to its mission of providing globally competent individuals.
