BY VIRTUE OF ORDINANCE No. 218 s. 2018 entitled, “An Ordinance Institutionalizing the Governor’s Excellence Awards on Academics and Leadership in the Province of Pangasinan,” the Provincial Government of Pangasinan epitomizes the outstanding intellectual and leadership qualities of deserving graduating students from different schools, colleges and universities. In reference, out of many aspiring applicants for the two most coveted provincial awards, graduating students from Pangasinan State University, John Joseph D. Zarate, BSEBiological Science from Bayambang Campus and Jessa Joi U. Meneses, BSE-English from Lingayen Campus, were legatee of the Governor’s Leadership Excellence Award 2020. While Fremel B. Macayana, BSE-Mathematics from Bayambang Campus and Christina Cerise Q. Abrigo from Lingayen Campus, were the recipient of Governor’s Academic Excellence Award 2020.
To be an awardee for the Governor’s Leadership Excellence Award, the student should have an excellent track record of output, preferably sustainable accomplishments or programs that has benefitted the academic institution, student body and the community. Whereas for the Governor’s Academic Excellence Award, the student should be a recipient of any of the Latin Awards or its equivalent.
The said acclamation was given in the respective houses of the awardees through the representatives of Gov. Amado I. Espino III, Overall Chairman and Dr. Irmina B. Francisco, Vice-Chairman of the Provincial Scholarship Program Management, Evaluation and Excellence Committee (PSPMEEC), Mr. Isaac Bernardo. According to Mr. Bernardo, “The students must meet the guidelines of the said committee and after strict evaluation, the graduating students from Pangasinan State University were approved.” (PSU Echoes, Vol XX No.2).
