The Pangasinan State University, in its continuous journey to excellence and transparency, organized the University-wide Orientation on the Role of Internal Audit Unit (IAU) in State Universities and Colleges on November 15, 2024.
𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐌. 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐬, in his welcome message, said this activity is crucial in realizing the university’s vision to be a leading industry-driven State University by 2030.

For the orientation proper, 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐉𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐜 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, served as the resource speaker on the functions, roles and mandates of internal auditors and audits in SUCs.
“𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑎𝑙𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝐼𝑛𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑐𝑜𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑦𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑠. 𝐼𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑡 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑎𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑦 𝑡𝑜 𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑙, 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑜𝑟 𝑎 𝑠𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑 𝑠𝑦𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑚 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑙 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠𝑒, 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑝 𝑜𝑓 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑒,” 𝐃𝐫. 𝐆𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐥 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝.
He explained that IAU is not about fault finding, neither investigative nor punitive. Internal auditors identify gaps in the process, deficiencies in the internal conflict and check if these are working systematically, never meant to embarrass a person, he added.
University vice presidents, executive directors of campuses, SAS and OUS and all university officials were present during the orientation held at the DTNB Convention Hall.
IAU Acting Focal Person Ms. Inicca Knielle Macatlang said she is hopeful that as the mandates of the IAU were re-established and re-introduced, the cooperative roles of both internal auditors and auditees are clear for everyone.
Acting HRMD Officer, Ms. Shiela Marie Malicdem, signified a strong support in the said event by thanking all attendees in her closing remarks.
