In a virtual corporate meeting last June 6, officials from PSU’s Office of the Vice President for Local and International Affairs (OVPLIA) convened with faculty members of the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) of Malaysia for potential academic partnerships.

UiTM is the largest comprehensive university in Malaysia, boasting 34 campuses, 4 colleges, 14 faculties, and 9 academic centers nationwide. It provides more than 500 academic programs spanning Foundation, Pre-Diploma, Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD levels, along with Professional Programs.

In his message, Dr. Ian D. Evangelista, Vice President for LIA, expressed his gratefulness and excitement for the possibility of collaborating with UiTM. “𝘞𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦, 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴, 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩,” Evangelista stated. He also took the opportunity to invite the guests to PSU’s 45th Founding Anniversary in September which will highlight a weeklong ASEAN Festival with stakeholders and partners from neighboring countries participating as well.

The said meeting paved the way for the discussion of the content and signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two universities which could open various activities such as teaching and research collaborations, and international conferences and trainings, among others.

Along with VP Evangelista in the meeting were Ms. Leizel M. Del Castillo, Director for International Relations, Mr. John Joseph D. Zarate, OIC Director for Continuing Professional Development, Dr. Jesusa B. Sanchez, Head for International Extension Partnership, and Dr. Krigher C. Simbulan, Head for Faculty and Student Mobility. Meanwhile, UiTM was represented by Dr. Rafidah Kamarudin (Department Head), and Prof. Mazliyana Zainal Arifin (Liason Officer) of the UiTM Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Pilah Campus’s Academy Language Studies.
