Pangasinan State University’s Student Regent and Federated Student Government President (FSG), Joward Medina, along with Prof. Marienuelle T. Aquino, the director for Students and Alumni Affairs, proudly represented the university at the Asia Technological University Network (ATU-Net) Student Leader Forum (SeLF) 2024, held at Phenikaa University in Hanoi, Vietnam, on September 11-13.
The forum, themed “The Importance of Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI),” aimed to raise awareness about the pivotal role of DEI in higher education. Discussions focused on the challenges and opportunities that educational institutions face as they strive to create more inclusive environments in an increasingly globalized world.
DEI principles—ensuring all individuals, regardless of their background, have equal opportunities to thrive—are essential in cultivating academic environments that promote student success. Strengthening DEI in higher education not only creates equitable learning spaces but also prepares students for life and work in multicultural societies.
During the forum, Medina was given the opportunity to speak on the topic “From Divide to Dialogue: Navigating Ethnocentrism with DEI” in the Social Sciences and Humanities session. His presentation emphasized the importance of dialogue in overcoming ethnocentric barriers and encouraging inclusivity among diverse student populations.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to engage in such meaningful and thought-provoking discussions on crucial topics in a global context,” Medina stated.
Moreover, their participation in ATU-Net SeLF 2024 highlights Pangasinan State University’s commitment to reinforcing its internationalization initiatives and adherence to nurturing a diverse and inclusive academic environment, preparing students for the challenges of tomorrow.
