Elevating academic and cultural exchange to the ASEAN region, Pangasinan State University embarked on a five-day internationalization mission crafted with the purpose of educating minds, stirring the spirit and shaping the heart.
The 𝐏𝐒𝐔 𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩 or ‘𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧’ was meant not only to highlight the beauty and diversity of Region I and equip participants with practical leadership tools, but more importantly to develop leaders who understand that true influence begins with empathy and that progress is more powerful when it includes everyone.
𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐌. 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐬 said the first-ever PRIME Camp not only strengthens PSU’s global presence but also transforms local assets into platforms for international collaboration and engagement.
“This year’s theme: ‘Leadership with Borders: Inspiring Change through Culture, Service and Shared Values’ did not come from an air-conditioned boardroom. It came from the margins…It came from people like you and me, who know that the most powerful kind of leadership is deeply rooted in culture, forged in service and grounded in values that connect us beyond politics, nationality or language,” the President said.
In the welcome program, 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐫. 𝐈𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐬 (𝐎𝐕𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐀), the division which led the activity, stated the purpose of the conduct of the PRIME camp.
“In a time marked by division and distraction, where borders often separate rather than connect, PRIME responds with a vision. A vision of leadership that does not stop at personal ambition . One that does not depend on titles or territories. But instead, a leadership rooted in culture, guided by service and inspire by shared values that unite rather than divide. That is why we are here. That is why PRIME was created,” Dr. Evangelista said.
Twenty-eight delegates from Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, India and the Philippines were hosted by PSU in this journey of leadership without borders.
Conducted from June 30 to July 4, PRIME Camp Day 1 started in the historic heart of Pangasinan with a flag raising ceremony held at the PSU open field and a welcome party at the Aseana Hall of the Golden Lion Hotel. A guided tour of the Pangasinan landmarks and socialization night capped the first day.
Day 2 was an avenue for leadership and governance training and team building while the third day was an environmental immersion and a visit to the Hundred Islands in Alaminos City.
Day 4 carried the delegates through the archives of resilience and showcased the loom weaving shops in the province of La Union and the landmarks of the Heritage City for Vigan.
The fifth day was when the ‘campers’ came in full circle-back to the grassroots with a community immersion in Mapita, Aguilar town that also involved a tree planting activity (𝒔𝒆𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒑𝒆𝒓 𝒅𝒂𝒚)
Truly, the PRIME Camp is a dream once scribbled on a paper by dreamers who believe that education should no longer be confined in classrooms, that leadership must no longer be measured by titles and that our region, our country, our neighbors across seas-have something powerful to offer the world: OUR STORIES!
