In the promotion of volunteerism, Pangasinan State University through its Research, Extension and Innovation Division, puts a united effort in serving the community.
The REI, in collaboration with the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) led by Executive Director Donald James Gawe spearheaded a workshop-seminar on the orientation on volunteerism and action planning, May 14.
Dubbed as ‘𝐻𝑎𝑟𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑃𝑜𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑙 𝑜𝑓 𝑉𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑚 𝑎𝑠 𝑎 𝐷𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑝𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑆𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑔𝑦 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ 𝐻𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝐸𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝐼𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑢𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠,’ the gathering was participated in by CEDs, university directors, directors and coordinators for NSTP/PE/Sports, Student Services, REI and centerheads.
According to REI Vice President Razeale G. Resultay, the said event aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the concept of volunteerism as a crucial development strategy and integrate its principles, values, and practices into the academic programs and community activities.

𝐵𝑦 𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑛 𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑒𝑟 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑒𝑠, 𝑖𝑛𝑑𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑑𝑢𝑎𝑙𝑠 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑔𝑎𝑖𝑛 𝑛𝑒𝑤 𝑠𝑘𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑠, 𝑏𝑢𝑖𝑙𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑟 𝑛𝑒𝑡𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑠, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑏𝑜𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑟 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑓𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑑𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑝𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡,” 𝐕𝐏 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐲 said.
Other two Vice Presidents, Dr. Jenylyn V. Oboza and Prof. Celeste T. Mercado, also extended their commitment on volunteerism as they also attended the event, representing PSU President, Dr. Elbert M. Galas.
The said event comprised three sessions with Lt. Col. Kenneth C. Siruelo, Officer-in-Charge for Policy, Advocacy and Technical Services Division, and Ms. Carleen Marie D. Salas, Volunteer Service Officer 1, both personnel of PNVSCA, lending their expertise as resource speakers.
Context Setting and Key Concepts on Volunteerism Mainstreaming in HEIs and Key Programs of PNVSCA were topics discussed in the morning sessions. A workshop was administered in the afternoon tagged as ‘Identifying Entry Points for the mainstreaming of Volunteerism.’
Moreover, the university strengthens the concepts and acts of volunteerism as the Extension Services Office, led by its Dir. Armando Junio, under the REI Division had established the COMMUNIVERSIDAD Outreach and Volunteer Program, an umbrella program for all outreach and volunteer activities in all campuses of the university.
