The Pangasinan State University, led by University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas, co-hosted a region-wide forum on geological hazard organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The said event, ‘Alerto! Rehiyon Uno – forum on Geological Hazards was personally attended by DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr. who also served as the keynote speaker on ‘Challenges and Vision for Disaster Resiliency in Region 1’ held at the Provincial Training and Development Center, Lingayen, Pangasinan on July 20.

“Good disaster risk governance can be measured by lives saved, fewer people affected and reduced economic losses. We need to ensure that disaster risk reduction is considered as crucial strategy to protect the local economy as the game progresses. For me, wealth protection will yield economic development,” Secretary Solidum said.

In his speech, the Secretary also highlighted PSU’s significant contributions to innovation and community engagement, particularly those under the DOST program.

The Science and Technology czar was joined by Undersecretary Teodoro Gatchalian and Regional Director Teresita Tabaog.

Meanwhile, the PSU Chorale of Bayambang Campus also showcased their exceptional talent in the event as they set the program for a doxology, national anthem and a brilliant performance.

Joining President Galas in the forum were Pangasinan Governor Ramon ‘Mon-Mon’ Guico III represented by Special Assistant Von Mark Mendoza, District representatives, regional directors, local chief executives and media representatives collectively uniting to raise awareness about geological hazards and sharing commitment to safeguard communities from the potential adverse impact of these hazards.
