PSU-DOST1 Food Innovation Center researchers served as trainers of the recently conducted seminar training on February 18-19, 2022 entitled “Tupig Innovations and Processing Technologies to Increase Business Opportunities”. The 2-day activity was facilitated and sponsored by the DOST1-Pangasinan and the LGU San Fabian which were actively attended by twenty-two (22) tupig makers from Tucok San Fabian Tupig Makers Association.
“The technologies developed through research by the PSU and the FIC are intended for the improvement of the community”, Dr. Liza Quimson, PSU-Bayambang Campus Executive Director emphasized during her welcome remarks. The LGU San Fabian represented by Sir Tony, the municipal executive secretary also inspired the participants by opening their minds to the beauty of product improvement and eventually organization engagement to contribute on the development of their own community. Dr. Raquel Pambid, FIC Head explained the FIC House Rules and introduced the resource speakers.
The participants expressed their gratitude as they were able to learn good manufacturing practices, standardized tupig making and processing innovations and technologies to prolong the shelf life of their product and to offer new variations such as tupig balatinao, tupig bucayo and tupig ube halaya to their consumers. They were also very grateful for the label and packaging assistance extended by the Department of Science and Technology 1- Pangasinan. The combined efforts of PSU, DOST and LGU San Fabian was further enhanced by the presence and support of the Office of the Congressman Christopher De Venecia who expressed to be the brand ambassador of the San Fabian’s OTOP, the tupig. Certificates and training modules were given to the participants after the seminar training. Indeed, the event was one fruitful endeavor and proof of harmony among agencies to help upgrade quality food products such as the tupig.
