‘Rekindle the passion and re-ignite the flame of torch of knowledge’

The Regional Director for Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in Region 1, Dr. Danilo B. Bose, encouraged the teaching internship students of Pangasinan State University to rekindle the passion and re-ignite the flame of torch of knowledge and wisdom as they enter the career path of education.

In the orientation and workshop webinar spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (OVPASA) held on February 20 -23, Director Bose served as the keynote speaker on the first day attended by teaching internship coordinators, directors and 1,905 teaching interns of the nine campuses of PSU.

The CHED Director emphasized the importance of producing competent teachers to answer the low literacy rate of today’s generation.

“Resolving it (literacy rate) involves the re-tooling of academic policies to fit post-pandemic normalcy. These should be serious and attuning to the role of literacy in today’s society,” Dr. Bose added.

Moreover, Dir. Bose reiterated the result of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), that majority of the Filipino learners or 80 percent have not reached the global minimum competence level for Reading, Mathematics and Science which concluded that educational system in the Philippines is really in crisis.

“With these figures and data, we are confident that Pangasinan State University, particularly the Colleges of Teacher Education, are not only preparing students as licensed professional teachers for the present generation, but more importantly, those who shall lead our youth in the world still unknown to all of us,” Dir. Bose said as he commended PSU.

The said event themed as “Philippine Education: Post Pandemic and Beyond” was held at the Conference Room of the Research and Extension Building, PSU, Lingayen Campus and was live streamed on Facebook to reach more participants.
