  5. PSU inks partnership with NICA for IEC c...

Cognizant of the vital role of the schools to provide quality, inclusive and safe education where students go to school free from fear, the Pangasinan State University renewed its partnership with the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), Monday.

A signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Agreement took place on October 23, 203 at the PSU Golden Lion Hotel with the heads of both institutions sharing mutual commitment to educate students, employees and other stakeholders on the right information that will protect their well-being.

Stipulated in the MOA are the terms and conditions for the conduct of awareness drives and activities including orientations and lectures to be conducted by NICA Regional Office 1 for PSU Campuses, as the recipient of the information education campaign.

University President Dr. Elbert Galas said peace is attained in the university through the creation and reinforcement of structures and outcomes that support an environment where human capital and potential flourish.

“Each one of us dreams and aspires to achieve lasting peace in our respective communities. It is only when genuine peace is achieved that we can truly be successful,” Dr. Galas said.

For NICA, Regional Director Mildred Abordo said recruitment activities of communist terrorist groups (CTGs) among the youth can be read everyday and these instances are what necessitate NICA to implement people-centered and community focused advocacies of the government.

“Let us unify, engage and empower all sectors of the society, especially the academe and diverge the youth from the lies and deceptions of the CTG,” she stressed.

Moreover, NICA Assistant Director-General Manuel M. Orduna expressed his appreciation to PSU, noting that the academe is their biggest partner in advocating peace as students are the number one targets of CTGs to disrupt security.
“Our efforts as individuals may not be enough but collaborative efforts create a resounding impact,” ADG Orduna explained.

The MOA signing was witnessed by the University Vice Presidents: Dr. Manolito Manuel for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Dexter R. Buted for Administration and Linkages, Dr. Razeale Resultay for REIGN, and incoming VP for Quality Assurance Dr. Jenylyn Oboza.

On the part of NICA, ADG Orduna and RD Abordo were joined by Deputy Regional Director Romeo Toribio, Jr. and Assistant RD Joelouie Addu.
PSU, as an ASEAN premier state university, works to transform each member of the educational institution in becoming an active promoter of a more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive and secure society.
