Pangasinan State University (PSU) produced 4, 361 graduates who joined its recently concluded 38th Commencement Exercises conducted in CSI Stadia, Lucao District, Dagupan City, and in PSU Convention Hall on June 21, 22 and 24, 2017.

With the confirmation of PSU Board of Regents, the new batch of graduates had complied with all the academic requirements of their respective academic programs in undergraduate, masteral, and doctoral.

There were also 21 graduates who accomplished with Latin Honors. Seventeen of them were Cum Laudes and four of them were Magna Cum Laudes. The four graduates who made it to be Magna Cum Laudes were: Gemark S. Rosete of Lingayen Campus, Ta-lung G. Tseng and Jordan T. Mamaril of Bayambang Campus, and Ronie B. Soriano of San Carlos City Campus.

Meanwhile, the Commencement Exercises were conducted with four batches. The first batch was composed of Infanta and Lingayen Campus, second batch with Binmaley, San Carlos City, and Urdaneta City Campus, third batch with Alaminos City, Asingan, Bayambang, and Sta. Maria Campus, and lastly, the fourth batch with Open University Systems and School of Advanced Studies.

There were four distinguished Commencement Speakers who addressed the graduates. The first commencement speaker was Hon. Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. He graced the commencement exercise of the first batch in the morning of June 21. He had served the country with several positions in both the executive and legislative branches of the government. He is currently serving the Filipino people as a Senator.

Hon. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, on the other hand, served as the commencement speaker of the second batch in the afternoon of June 21. She inspired the graduates with her noteworthy words of wisdom. She also shared her experiences of being the President of the country from 2001 to 2010. She is now the Second Congressional District Representative of Pampanga.

Arroyo was followed by Hon. Oscar P. Palabyab who talked before the third batch of the 2017 PSU graduates on June 22. Palabyab was the former Undersecretary for Tourism Services and Regional Office of Department of Tourism. He is the current Secretary General of the Philippine Red Cross.

Lastly, Dr. Elizabeth A. Montero, University President of Urdaneta City University, served as the Commencement Speaker of the last batch composed of the doctoral and masteral graduates of Open University Systems and School of Advanced Studies. The exercises happened on June 24 at the PSU Convention Hall. Dr. Montero is a proud alumna of PSU.

The PSU 38th Commencement Exercises was anchored by the theme, “Scholar ng Bayan, Bayani ng Milenyo at Tagasulong ng Pagbabago.” The theme highlighted the significant contribution of “scholars ng bayan” as “agents of change.”
