  5. PSU Teatro

theatroKung gusto mong maging isang mahusay na manunulat, magbasa ka.” This is the pressing statement of Henry Nadong, a Carlos Palanca Awardee and a member of the Screenwriters Guild of the Philippines who served as the workshop master for the five-day playwriting and theater workshop held at the Audio Visual Room, Lingayen campus on July 25-29.

Nadong further stressed that a play will not soar in performance unless it’s great on the page. An overview of the basics of playwriting, Collaborative writing, monologues, among others were discussed to provide the students the necessary skills in playwriting and theater arts and to prepare one-act plays in the establishment of PSU Teatro that will serve as the official theater arts guild of the university.

Around 55 incoming 2nd year students from all PSU campuses participated in the said activity; all of them were in high spirit to write plays that draws the big applause.

“Talagang nahasa ang kakayahan ko sa pagsusulat dahil napaka- insightful at constructive ng workshop na ito,” said Christian Garcia, a 3rd year BSE Filipino from PSU Lingayen campus.

“I learned that writing a story can be both hard and exciting because it requires engagement and immersion of yourself to the story,” added Dennis Camba, a BS Agriculture from PSU Infanta campus.

Nadong has written about 75 screenplays and teleplays and has bagged numerous awards that included a short story in Filipino by the Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in 1992, best screenplay for “Zacarias” by the Manila Film Festival in the same year and Best Drama Episode for  “Pulis, Pulis” (Balintataw) by the Catholic Media Awards for Television in 1988. Moreover, he has two years-experience in Film and TV Scriptwriting and is one of the first fellows of FPJ Fellowship in Scriptwriting.
